First Photo Friday
All of you should be pleased to note that I resisted the urge to write “photo” as “foto” just to annoy all you alliteration haters. And also I didn’t want any new readers stopping by to think that I truly did not know how to spell photo and click away fast before discovering I am not, in fact, illiterate. So there you have it; I cannot make any promises for future posts.
For this week’s photo fest (again with the almost-alliteration!) I decided to ease into it with a much-requested theme: my library! I’ve posted a few pictures of my library before, but I took a few new ones for all you long-time readers and anyone relatively new will get a first-time glimpse into the secret world of NPW. Oh, lucky day!
First, we have a shot of what is currently taking up most of my library- the book fair!
Fun, right? Who doesn’t love pencils topped with troll dolls? Oh yeah, and books. Whatevs. Next up, we have a shot of the interior of my lovely library, with a complimentary addition of one of the Chinese people who live here. Live where? In my library, duh. Please try to keep up.
So can you spot her?
Pretty pretty pink and orange! Don’t you all wish you could be subjected to such beauty on a daily basis? Actually, it’s not too bad. I do have a lot of windows, a very nice courtyard, and plenty of books. But then there is this:
The sink of mysterious odors! I am fairly certain that this is where the disgusting smells are emanating from but I have been unsuccessful in my attempts to prove it. You know, since I’m NOT A PLUMBER. And also the sink is kind of dirty at the mo’; I think some kids used it last night at the Open House to fill squirt guns and that is not my dirty mug sitting there. Grossness!
In the world of Not Gross, we have Guitar Hero. Fun for you and me, kids!
And also a couple of PS2s, some loaner laptops, and a random bunch of wires. Because my library is awesome like that. My library is also awesome because I have many displays. For example:
Ancient India displays, made by the kids out of that goopy mixture of baking soda and water, then painted. How come I don’t remember our projects being half as fun? I also have my own displays, like graphic novels and new books.
Library life 4-EVA! Peace out, weekend lovers.

Book fairs were the best part of elementary school, hands down. That’s quite the library you’ve got there!
That’s a really nice library. I can’t believe there are video games! Although…our public library has video games…
My mother in law gave hubby that Dangerous Book For Boys book for Christmas. Ha.
I swear I have the same exact orange carpet in my bedroom! Thanks for the glimpse into NPW world.
I spotted her! I feel very proud of myself.
Also, I love your library. Bad smells and all.
This photojournal almost made me miss elementray school! Almost. The Book Fairs were the best. I would scrape together all the spare change I could find and do extra chores for weeks before the Book Fair.
My librarians were not as cool as you, though. They were decidedly uncool.
I am a bit confused about the presence of puffer fish, but their names amuse me. Why not a regular old goldfish? Short life span? Or memory retention?
Your library looks nice and bright, indeed. I vote that you create something out of “that goopy mixture of baking soda and water” and document the process for us.
I still can’t believe your middle school library has Guitar Hero. Our school didn’t have anything fun. Oh, except books. They’re fun, right? Right.
i love your library – it is so nice and inviting, especially all the displays. i’m hoping that by the end of next year i will finally have room for displays too. instead i have a million outdated books that should’ve been weeded out ages ago.
That’s a very cool library. Ours was not nearly so cool. (And they called it a “media center” instead of a library. Why? This was the 70s–there was no “media” except books.) Our librarian was very nice, but not very imaginative. Not big on displays. I still loved the place, though–shelves and shelves of books! What’s not to love?
Seriously? The middle school has no concerns about a random family hanging out in the school library?
I am really thinking that I missed my calling and should have been a middle school librarian.
your library is awesome! and i loved trolls as a kid
still jealous that you get to wear jeans AND play guitar hero at work!
I love your library! But seriously, how can you stand that carpet?
Nice library. The windows and courtyard are definitely a plus. It looks like a nice place to read a book or shred your fingertips on some stadium rock riffs.
I loved the book fair so much as a kid. I would beg my parents to please please please have money to buy books. They had chores to hold over my head for months after those fairs!
That is a very nice library. It’s big!
So, you’ve had random people hanging out in your library since 2005 and you’re not sure who they are/why they are there? This is fascinating.
DUDE. The book fair was the highlight of my elementary school existence. I would probably enjoy one just as much now.
Haha, this totally ruined the illusion for me. This whole time I had you sitting in MY childhood library. This is a much better situation, despite the smells.
Your library is MUCH nicer than my junior high library. Lucky ungrateful kids!
Thanks for the virtual library tour! The troll-topped pencils totally made me snicker. I didn’t know they still made those!!
That looks like my highschool library. My son’s librarian is really cool. He is a huge reader and she allows him to check out extra books all of the time. He thinks highly of her for that!
Nice library! Do the Chinese people at least help you organize books or something?
actually, in most uses, alliteration is understood to be the repetition of the beginning sounds of words, not specifically the letter itself. for example, no one would expect a sentence about “cake on the ceiling” (okay, that was a stupid sentence, but it works for the example) to count as alliteration. i would say you DID have alliteration in the title, with or without spelling “photo” with an F.
yes, i’m a big nerd.
That is a cool library! I don’t remember any of our libraries in school being half as awesome. We definitely only had books. No video games.
Then again, that was the age of Atari.
4-Eva was a nice touch.
I am sure, knowing me, that it will not surprise you in the least to hear that growing up book fair week was hands-down one of my favorite weeks in the entire school year.
Also, trolls are still a popular among item among the kiddies? Huh. Who knew?
I always thought the trolls were ugly. Not ugly cute but ugly ugly. Because, hello, they are trolls. And God, I love the library. I miss the library so much and you get to go there every day. I mean, okay, you have to work and that part sucks but still…LIBRARY!
I was going to be a elementary school teacher or librarian but then I realized I didn’t really like kids all that much.
Did you get your package yet? Did you? I suppose I could always go track it.
I used to LOVE book fair! Looking back, it was the beginning of my love affair with Barnes and Noble. Sigh.

Hi, I’m playing catch-up with my Google Reader. Just thought I’d let you know, for future fun alliteration, that “Foto” is actually Spanish for Photo. So you would be being bilingual rather than illiterate. And you’d have the alliteration! Win-win!
