Keep Your Friday Free
Because you’re going to want to spend it reading the very first Choose Your Own Blogventure! While I haven’t read more than a handful of the story sections, I am 100% positive that every story that was written will retain a piece of the author’s writing style, and will be markedly different from anything I could have imagined.
Yesterday I tracked down the only Choose Your Own Adventure book I have in my library- #43, The Grand Canyon Odyssey- and settled in for some rip roaring action. People, I don’t mind telling you: the story sucked. Big time. It involved time travel, but it was never explained why or how the people managed to do that. It also involved a General of some sort, and horses, and white water rafting. Pretty much everything you see here:
In any case, I managed to die twice during my adventures in the gorge; once by lightning as I was climbing along the canyon wall, and once by throwing myself into the rapids to help a drowning friend. Lesson learned: never help a friend in need or you will wind up either dead or back in time.
So I am still waiting to hear back from a couple of people to make sure they will have their story sections ready by tomorrow morning, 10 a.m. If all systems are a go you will be starting in on the very first Choose Your Own Blogventure right here, NPW-style. Good luck, and I hope you don’t perish in a fiery explosion!
Also, a huge thank you to all the CYOB participants:

Is that general a conquistador? Because it looks like he is on the hunt for the Fountain of Youth.
YAY for CYOB! (Which sounds strangely close to BYOB. Coincidence? I think not.)
And a huge thank you to YOU for organizing all this! I am excited to read all the other sections.
I was writing mine last night, and I kept hearing your voice (now that I know what it sounds like) saying that you had faith in me. I’m pretty excited for tomorrow!
can’t wait! and again, this idea is genius. i’m still tweaking mine a little (i have an amazing writer/editor that i work with and i wanted him to read it today) but i promise it’ll be up at 10!
Wow. There’s a quite a lot of us participating, aren’t there? Looking forward to it!
Thanks for putting it together!
I remember that book cover!
I can’t wait to start reading tomorrow! What a great idea!
I am so ready for this. It’s in the hopper and just waiting for me to click “publish” tomorrow morning. Can’t wait to see where my portion came from and where it goes and what everyone else has been up to with theirs.
Sorry I am not creative enough for this….!!!
oh well Lex and I will participate next time…two heads are better than one.
This is such a great idea (see, there is some good to working in a middle school libray – who else would have the constant exposure to Choose Your Own Adventure Books and therefore the inspiration to start your own?). I’m too lazy to participate, but I look forward to reading it!
Man, that picture brings back memories: memories of cheating (“Lemme just peek ahead here…oh, that choice ends in death. I’ll try the other option”).
I CAN’T WAIT!!
this is gonna be awesome.
I can’t wait!! Guess I shouldn’t plan to accomplish any WORK on Friday!
I totally remember reading that book when I was younger, based only on the cover art.
[...] they were awesome. On Friday morning I will be posting the ending to one of the story lines in the Choose Your Own Blogventure. I will post the link to the first story to get started, and the one right before me, but hide the [...]
Choose your own blogventure sounds really cool! Neat idea! I’m excited to read it.
I used to LOVE those books. So much! I found one that I still own and re-read it, like you did. You’re right. In retrospect, they really weren’t that great. But boy were they a great concept.
Damn, I really need to get on this.
Just kidding. Sort of.
Also, I think I read that very same CYOA book. Awesome.
Hmm. I will most definitely check this out. Also, let me know whenever you do another similar, wacky project. This sounds fun!
I finished my e-portfolio just in time! Screw work deadlines – I’ll be C’ing my OB tomorrow.
Oh. That doesn’t sound good when you read it aloud.
I’m so excited! I’m actually already excited about #2 (assuming there’s going to be a CYOB #2)!
I can’t wait to see the CYOB in its entirety!
It’s on like Donkey Kong.
Yay! I can’t wait to fritter away half of my work day reading these.
I know I had several Choose Your Own Adventure books when I was a kid, but the only one still in my possession is the “Night of a Thousand Boyfriends” one I got for my birthday last year. I am confident our stories will be entirely more entertaining than that.
OMG! Can’t WAIT!
WANT STORY!!!
